Pete has had a hard life. Lack of a good education, low natural intelligence, and a gentle demeanor have left him ill equipped to deal with much of what life has thrown at him; while his bulky, strong build has led to him being thrown into violent roles which he isn’t suited for.
After the Gunners recruited him they were initially disappointed in his combat skills. They dealt with this by sticking him in the kitchens, where he in fact started to excel. Few could toss a brahmin carcass around like him, let alone butcher it so professionally. He was as close to content as he could remember. Good at his job and with a predictable routine, he had also formed a bond with another recruit named Patty.
But then the Hellhound platoon needed a field cook to replace the one they had gotten killed, Pete was given the assignment. He was content no longer. The atmosphere was toxic and Pete was an easy target for the bullying behaviour which was encouraged in the ranks. Patty, discovering Pete’s situation, persuaded him that they should run off together. The worsening relationship between the Hellhounds and Gunner command gave them enough of a distraction to do so.

Pete and Patty, ecstatic with freedom, got married at the Diamond City chapel and headed off to a sheltered, abandoned shack to set up home together. The Hellhounds could spread all the lies they liked about them, they were free now.Yet when one day a group of lawmen turn up looking for justice for misattributed crimes, would they survive to tell their side of the story?
